Custom E-learning Platform — Online Course Sales, Members Area & Progress Tracking
Manro (Roman) is a drawing YouTuber who wanted to sell his online course but had no platform to do it. I built everything from scratch — a site where visitors can discover the course, buy it, and then access it through a members area with video lessons and progress tracking. Turnkey delivery: design, development and hosting. The platform generated over €3,000 in sales.
01 Client Brief
Roman had a YouTube audience but no way to monetise it properly. His only online presence was his channel. He needed a platform that could do two things: sell the course to new visitors, and let buyers access it easily. No existing site — we started from scratch. He also wanted students to be able to track their progress through the lessons, so they always know where they are.
02 My Role & Deliverables
I handled everything — brief, design, development and hosting. I started by looking at what other e-learning platforms do (Teachable, Kajabi, Udemy) to understand what works and what to avoid. Then I designed the interface on Figma before touching any code. The stack was custom-built because an off-the-shelf CMS couldn't handle the members area and progress tracking without a lot of workarounds.
03 How the Platform Works
Sales Page & Payment
The public side of the site is designed to convince — it presents the course, what you'll learn, and makes it easy to buy. Payment goes through Stripe, so it's secure and the money lands directly in Roman's account. Once the payment is confirmed, the student gets access automatically.
Members Area & Progress Tracking
Once logged in, students access all the video lessons. As they watch, their progress is saved — completed lessons are marked, and they can pick up exactly where they left off. It's a simple feature but it makes a real difference to the learning experience.
The members area is only accessible after a confirmed purchase. No payment, no access — the logic is handled server-side so it can't be bypassed.
Roman didn't have to touch anything technical. I handled domain, hosting, deployment and tested the full purchase flow end-to-end before handing it over.
04 Key Takeaways
This project had two very different user types — a visitor who needs to be convinced to buy, and a student who needs a smooth learning experience. Designing for both in the same platform required thinking the user journeys through carefully before writing a line of code.
Building a custom platform instead of using an existing tool meant more work upfront, but it gave Roman exactly what he needed — no unnecessary features, no monthly fees, no compromise on the experience.
Result: €3,000+ in sales generated through the platform. A real product, real students, real revenue — for a creator who had nothing but a YouTube channel before.
